Parental Controls

With Hi-Fi, it’s our goal to deliver a listening experience that can be enjoyed by everyone in your family.

Hi-Fi doesn’t control the content that appears in the app. As a parent, you have some options here.

Hi-Fi uses your chosen approach to accessing music — whether that’s syncing your music from the cloud, or directly from a Mac or PC.

SourceDescription
Cloud SyncAn Apple Music subscription provides access to millions of songs, including some explicit content. You may partially restrict this content using Screen Time settings in iOS or iPadOS (details below).
Sync from Mac or PCSynced files are limited to whatever is in your library. You can decide whether any explicit content is synced. Screen Time restrictions may also be used (details below).

Explicit albums and tracks are indicated in Hi-Fi with an icon.

To restrict explicit content in Hi-Fi and Apple Music, go to Settings → Screen Time → Content & Privacy Restrictions → App Store, Media, Web, & Games → Music, Podcasts, News, Fitness.

When explicit music is blocked by Screen Time restrictions, those tracks will no longer appear in Hi-Fi.

In keeping with its minimal, utilitarian design, Hi-Fi does not display album or artist artwork. When playing music from Hi-Fi, album artwork may be displayed in the Now Playing interfaces in iOS, iPadOS, and beyond. If you have a Mac or PC, you can customize the album art for music that’s in your library.
