Sync Music Files from Mac or PC
Music files can be synced onto your iPhone or iPad from a Mac or PC.
Some background on this option:
- You can sync files that you own from sources such as imported audio CDs.
- You can sync music that you have purchased and downloaded from the iTunes Store.
- Apple supports file formats including MP3, AAC, AIFF, WAV, and ALAC.
- No subscription required.
- The Apple Music app isn’t required on the target iPhone or iPad.
Turn Off Sync Library
Section titled “Turn Off Sync Library”In order to sync music files from a Mac or PC, you will first need to ensure that Sync Library is disabled on the target iPhone or iPad. You can find this in Settings → Apps → Music → Sync Library.
Sync Music from Mac
Section titled “Sync Music from Mac”Your music will need to be imported into Apple Music on your Mac. Then you can connect your iPhone or iPad to your Mac and use Finder to sync your music selections to the device. After the sync is complete, you’ll see your music show up in Hi-Fi.
Sync Music from PC
Section titled “Sync Music from PC”Your music will need to be imported into Apple Music on your Windows PC. Then you can connect your iPhone or iPad to your PC and use Apple Devices to sync your music selections to the device. After the sync is complete, you’ll see your music show up in Hi-Fi.
A Note about iTunes Music Purchases
Section titled “A Note about iTunes Music Purchases”iTunes purchases may be available in the following lossless quality levels:
- High Quality (AAC 256 kbps)
- Lossless (ALAC up to 24-bit 48 kHz)
- Hi-Res Lossless (ALAC up to 24-bit/192 kHz)
When syncing purchased lossless music from iTunes, only the first option (“High Quality”) is supported. Selecting higher quality levels may result in the songs not appearing for sync.
